Installation Notes
------------------
If for some reason you need to re-install or upgrade SpeedyROM,
Quarterdeck recommends that you remove the old copy first, using the
Windows 95 Add/Remove Software Control Panel applet or CleanSweep 95
from Quarterdeck Corporation. If you choose to upgrade without first
removing the old files, and later you decide to remove SpeedyROM from
your system, a standard Windows 95 Uninstall may not remove all the
files from your system.
A Word About Legacy 16-bit CD-ROM Drivers and MSCDEX.EXE
--------------------------------------------------------
Windows 95 supports most CD-ROM drives in 32-bit mode, using CDFS
(the 32-bit CD file system). However, there are a small number of
CD-ROM drives that Windows 95 supports in 16-bit mode. These drives
run in "legacy" mode. In legacy mode, MSCDEX.EXE (the 16-bit CD file
system) must be loaded in order for the CD-ROM to be visible under
Windows 95. SpeedyROM does not support CD-ROM drives that run in
legacy mode.
Some systems may be configured to use MSCDEX even though it is not
necessary. You can determine if this is the case for your system by
inspecting your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to see if it contains a reference to
MSCDEX. If it does, you should remove it from your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
and see if your CD-ROM drive still works. Quarterdeck strongly
recommends against installing MSCDEX if your CD-ROM drive will work
without it.
Support of Windows 3.1 and DOS CD Games and Applications
--------------------------------------------------------
SpeedyROM supports the latest Windows 95 games and applications, as
well as older Windows 3.1 and DOS games that can run in a Windows 95
DOS box. In order to experience SpeedyROM's speed benefits, Windows
3.1 and DOS games must be used within Windows 95.
Notes on Windows 95 System Monitor
----------------------------------
SpeedyROM provides cache hit rate statistics in the About SpeedyROM
box, which you can access from the control menu in the upper left-hand
corner of the SpeedyROM application window.
If you require more detailed information, you can use Windows 95's
System Monitor utility, which is on the Windows 95 CD-ROM. If you do
not have the Windows 95 CD-ROM, contact Microsoft for additional
information about System Monitor.
